The Plano Band Officer Selection Process systematically assesses and evaluates all candidates through an application/ballot
system in which self nomination or at-large nominations begin the process, including a popular vote. Qualified candidates are selected and an interview scheduled with the band staff. The band directors
select officers based on the applications, interviews, and popular vote.
Acts as main communication liaison between students, officers, and band directors.
Operates as general manager of the Plano Senior High School Band.
Coordinates and leads biweekly band officer meetings.
Addresses the Plano Band and speaks for the Plano Band.
Presides as Master of Ceremonies at the Plano Senior High School Band Banquet.
Arranges social events, including Friday night at CiCi's Pizza. Plans at least one
social event for the band every six weeks. Encourages and insures that section
leaders are planning events for their sections.
Supervises Band Officer Staff. Insures Band Officers are completing tasks timely.
Generates band member bus lists for marching season and spring trips.
Provides lists for Band Booster Chaperone Vice President.
Monitors Plano Senior High School Band spring auditions.
Collects and records all forms from band members. Gathers missing forms.
Remits all forms to Associate Band Director.
Recruits feeder high school band students with band directors.
Oversees the condition of, and enforces the daily cleanliness of the hallway
outside the band room.
Takes attendance for every marching rehearsal. Keeps an accurate log of
season attendance. Meets with directors after every rehearsal to record
excused or unexcused absences. Notifies directors if a student misses
consecutive marching rehearsals. Informs students and drum majors at the
end of rehearsal any students that must stay late because of tardiness or
unexcused absences.
Creates a tutoring list for the Band Program.
Creates bus lists. Distributes to Band Booster Chaperone Volunteer.
Responsible for data entry.
Ensures the maintenance, upkeep, and proper cleaning of all Plano Band areas as part of each band officer meeting.
Acts as recording secretary during all band officer meetings.
Notifies officers if tasks have not been completed per band officer meeting minutes.
Assists Assistant Band Director by organizing and issuing inventory instruments and accessories.
Advertises events for the Plano Senior High School Band by means of posters,
announcements, or email.
Monitors Plano Senior High School Band spring auditions.
Recruits feeder high school band students with band directors.
Assists Band President with duties.
Supervises the condition of, and enforces the daily cleanliness of inventory
storage room and instrument storage room. Tidy up both rooms weekly.
Serve as "Scoop Master" for the band. Scoop ice into student water jugs from 4:05-4:25 before every marching
rehearsal.
Serve as "Key Master". Lock the band room at 4:35 during every marching
rehearsal. Unlock the band room immediately following every marching
rehearsal.
Drives the Espirit de Corps of the Plano Senior High School Band
through perseverance, craze, and energy.
Inspires passion and mania through example.
Promotes vitality and exhilaration to the band through pep talks.
Helps President organize social events for the Plano Band.
Revises band calendar at front of band room bi-weekly.
Constructs, copies, and distributes Toe-Up Times newsletter weekly throughout football season and for the band trip.
Manages bulletin boards in hallway outside band room weekly. Displays new
information / materials on bulletin boards from receiving crate on top of distribution cabinet.
Designs spirit posters to be displayed in hallway and band room.
Produces "Remember Whens" and "Senior Wills" for the Plano Senior High School Band Banquet.
Supervises the condition of, and enforces the daily cleanliness of the "G"
storage closet in the band room. Tidy up "G" storage closet weekly.
Create, distribute, and tally ballot sheets for Plano Band Spirit Awards for Band
Banquet. Present Spirit Awards at the Band Banquet.
Write quote of the week on the board above the band office door.
Bring chalk box to marching field daily. Place on back sideline next to
metronome.
Keep an accurate record of all Band Officer meetings.
Create and maintain a historical record of the school year as it pertains to the band.
Will present a scrapbook to the band at the end of the year.
Help with writing articles and press releases to the school announcements (Mrs. Baumann),
school newspaper, Plano Star Courier, and Dallas Morning News about all successes of the Plano Band and its members.
Administers all matters related to sound and light for all performances of
the Plano Senior High School Bands.
Engineers sound enhancement for all Plano Jazz Ensemble events, including
concerts and recruiting performances at feeder schools.
Connects sound system for all jazz ensemble performances and dress rehearsals.
Connects microphone to Plano Senior High School theater sound system
for use at Plano Band concerts. Tests microphone prior to concerts.
Operates lights in auditorium during concerts and performances.
Duplicates compact disc recordings for band members, jazz ensemble
members, and directors as requested.
Assembles, places, and activates video camera to record conductors during all
performances.
Supervises the condition of, and enforces the daily cleanliness of the
sound equipment storage room. Tidy up sound storage room weekly.
Moves mic, metronome, cords, cd player to marching field before all
marching rehearsals. Sets-up and tests long ranger and microphone
before each rehearsal. Give mic to Director after tested.
Set-up projector and DVD player for video for yearly lock-in.
Serve all music needs for Plano Senior High School Band Members and
Directors. Receive music requests via music request box on top of
distribution cabinet.
Organize and file music in Plano Band Library.
Copy and distribute all music to Plano Band members.
Help with concert program notes for Plano Senior High School Bands concert
programs.
Update library databases by recording newly purchased music on "Addition
to Library Form", submitting form to Assistant Band Director, assigning a
catalog number, and filing new music.
Copy marching band drill charts and distribute to band section leaders and
staff.
Copy and laminate marching band coordinate sheets. Distribute to band
section leaders who issue to individual band members.
Copy All-Region Band and Jazz Ensemble audition materials. Place copies
in distribution cabinet.
Reproduce and bind copies of musical scores for use as director study scores
or judges scores.
Supervise the condition of, and enforce the daily cleanliness of the band
library. Tidy up band library weekly.
Always have extra copies of music and (3) copies of drill cards readily available.
Serve all uniform needs for Plano Senior High School Band Members.
Work closely with Plano Band Parent Booster Uniform Volunteers.
Sort all uniform pieces numerically in the upstairs uniform storage room.
Establish assistance to band members with uniform needs on Tuesdays after marching
rehearsals and Fridays after game practice.
Gather materials needed by Uniform Booster Parents for uniform collection dates.
Label hat box shelves with student name labels during leadership camp.
Refurbish throughout year as needed.
Monitor and clean upstairs uniform room biweekly.
Supervise the condition of, and enforce the weekly cleanliness of the downstairs
uniform storage room. Insure proper care and storage of all uniforms. Tidy up room
after every marching band performance.
By the end of first semester, have hats, gauntlets, sashes, and marching uniforms sorted and hung upstairs.
Assist parents with issuing of marching uniforms during instrument check-out.
Record assignments in Charms Music Assistant. Organize marching uniform check-in after the annual holiday parade.
Record returned items in Charms. Provide a list of band members and uniform parts not returned to the band directors.
Assign and distribute concert uniforms during class starting the beginning of November.
Record assignments in Charms music assistant.
Organize concert uniform check-in after the annual Prism Concert. Record returned items to Charms.
Arrange and oversee cleaning of marching and concert uniforms. Sort and hang after cleaning.
Guarantees the security of all individual's personal and school owned musical
instruments while being packed, transported, and/or unpacked for Plano
Senior High School Band affairs.
Selects four senior and two junior members to serve as members of the
loading crew.
Supervises the loading and unloading of the Plano Band equipment trailer or truck.
Loads miscellaneous equipment such as podiums, plume box, water coolers,
etc. onto band equipment trailer or truck.
Prepares trailer or truck for band to load instruments and equipment by opening doors
and placing stairs for access. Closes doors and packs stairs before equipment trailer or truck departs.
Checks that all freight/instruments are secure before closing truck for
departure.
Controls band member traffic flow into equipment truck.
Packs and secures all luggage, instruments, and equipment on buses for spring
band trip.
Sustains the long lasting traditions of the Plano Senior High School Band
Loading Crew.
Supervises and schedules the loading and unloading of all equipment used for hosting
music festivals and off-site concerts.
Epitomize the standards and traditions of the Plano Senior High School Band.
Conduct the Plano Senior High School Wildcat Marching Band.
Act as marching technicians during drill learning rehearsals.
Lead marching band rehearsals by giving verbal repetition of instructions
given by the band director and dictating action through vocal and visual
commands based on rehearsal protocol.
Grasp the entire visual marching sequence and musical events by memory
before rehearsals take place.
Maintain the watering system during marching rehearsals. (every 20 minutes during
temperatures above 85 degrees, every 25 minutes during temperatures below 85 degrees)
Reprimand band members for tardiness, unexcused absences, and/or missing flip folders by requiring
them to stay after rehearsal for ten minutes. Lead these students through nonstop marching fundamental
practice. Band President will inform drum majors of students with tardiness or unexcused absences.
Operate the metronome during marching band rehearsals.
Position and assemble podiums before the start of each marching band
rehearsal.
Place long rangers and megaphone on back sideline before the start of each
marching band rehearsal. Return after rehearsal.
Charge long rangers daily.
Maintain the painting of red dots on the marching field for the duration of
marching season.
Monitor Plano Senior High School Band spring auditions.
Recruit feeder high school band students with band directors.
Present the "Year-in-review" speech at the Plano Senior High School Band
Banquet.
Prepare drum major clinic and audition materials, including compact disc of
recorded music.
Evaluate marching and playing tests of section captains Tuesdays after
marching rehearsal.
Oversee and maintain marching field cleanliness daily.
