Wildcat Marching Band

The Sounds in Motion

Please welcome the Sounds in Motion of the Plano Senior High School Wildcat Marching Band. The Band is under the field direction of Directors Jeremy Kondrat, Michael Hernandez, Aaron Daniel, and Drum Majors Kendall Demarest, Isaac Lee, and Kaycee Morganto.

The Plano Band will begin tonight's festivities with the playing of the "Plano Fanfare" written by Plano alumnus David Lovrien and commissioned by the 2006 Plano Band. The Plano Fanfare pays tribute to all of those Plano Wildcats that created and formed the deep rooted Plano Senior High School Tradition.

Welcome to Wildcat Country! We are the Plano Wildcat Marching Band and we'd like to introduce you to our fight song!

Its not some rehashed college fight song. It's been ours and only ours for fifty years and Seven football state championships.

We play it all night...So we hope you like it...'Cause you're gonna hear it a lot!! So come on all you Plano Wildcat fans...Get on your feet, pick up your paws, and let's show 'em how we do things at THE OLD SCHOOL!!

Pep Rally

What is behind the hype? What is this hype you're referring to? Am I...hyped?

The hype? Why Plano Wildcat hype of course! People try to remain calm, but to no avail. The spirit grows within you, building from the inner core, a flow, a fire, a wildcat empire!

The hype you see, the hype you hear, the hype you feel is what binds us together as Plano Wildcats. For our traditions soar, our student's roar, and our hands show four. THAT is the hype we cry out for.

Ask if you're hype, the answer is yes! Maroon is the dress, but let me guess...you're thinking excess? No not at all, no need to suppress. We are the Plano Wildcats, no less, no guess, just ready to impress.
Our roar they will hear, our spirit severe, so believe the hype for pep rally is near. Besides, who would've "thunk" I was Shakespeare. ;-)

We hope to see you support our Wildcats through and through. The Plano Band will be there, that is true. We hope you can join us, thanks beaucoup.

GO PLANO WILDCATS,...whew!!

Game Day Ritual

Plano Game day traditions are some of the most fun things in Plano Band. The bonding and camaraderie is amazing when a football game is approaching. Everyone's mood changes and the band members seem to realize "this is why I work for two hours everyday after school, so I can be with these people and get the rush of the game day experience".

Some of the best traditions are the ones that involve the thousands of Plano fans. Chanting "PPlllaaannnooo" seems to be a great Plano band tradition. Everyone gets into it and it wakes up the stadium (not like we need it now, with our awesome football team!). But the chanting really is a great tradition that pumps up the atmosphere. Another thing that everyone loves is Thunderbones. It's fun to have just trombones get up and run around the football field playing cool music for everyone. I love that they play for the other side too. The crowd loves it too and it gets the band even more pumped waiting for the thunderbones to get back and play "Crazy Train".

Another tradition that involves the crowd is at the end of every game when everyone stands up and sways to the school song. I've noticed not every school does that. Everyone for Plano stays for the song and it feels like we're all just one big family (that would be a stinkin' big family!). It really seals the game and leaves everyone with a good feeling no matter what.

The Plano Band also has traditions like with KRU. It's really fun when there are weird traditions that no one really knows why we do them. Like having KRU sit in the back of the bus. KRU is a really great thing, instead of having a bunch of people be really mad about having to load stuff onto a bus, it's cool to get sweaty and stay out after everyone. It seems like a good tradition that turned a potentially bad job into something good. Plus they get soda after they work hard. This tradition really is a symbol of the mentality that the Plano Band should and mostly does have about everything.

Another cool thing is the "in section" game day traditions. Such as the mello-cookies and flute pies. Those kinds of traditions keep the band strong and as it seems, well fed. You have to like the traditions that involve food!

The last awesome tradition that I think is really great is going to Cici's. Going to Cici's after a game really makes the band a big family. How can you not call people family if you've sweat with them, stink with them and eat with them? It's also great for people in the band that haven't really assimilated into the group. It gives them a chance to go somewhere to hang with the band and insure them they won't be left out. It also gives them a chance to be exposed to other people from other sections and form bonds with different people in the band.

All of the Plano Band game day traditions are great tools to make band fun and make us closer. We should come up with a million more. - Jennifer Malinak, Class of 2007

Uniform Protocol and Maintenance

EACH BAND MEMBER WILL BE EXPECTED TO TAKE THE UTMOST CARE AND CAUTION WHEN WEARING AND STOWING YOUR UNIFORM. THIS MAINTENANCE AND PROTOCOL HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO ENSURE THE NEW UNIFORMS REMAIN IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR TWELVE YEARS.

NO SITTING IN UNIFORM!!! Band members will NEVER sit in uniform. The band will be purchasing stadium seat covers soon. Until those seat covers are purchased the band will always stand when wearing the uniform. Band members will stand silently in check to show respect to injured football players. Uniforms are to be removed before sitting on the bus.

NO LEANING AGAINST WALLS, BUSES, ETC. IN UNIFORM!!!

LOADING KRU AND PIT - NO LOADING/UNLOADING IN UNIFORM!!

Uniforms will only be worn for performances at football games and marching contests.

The uniform will always be worn in its entirety. Pants and jackets will always be zipped. All buttons should always be fastened. Suspenders will always be on shoulders. The only exception to this will be at hot weather games when the jacket is removed. Band members will be in full uniform when exiting the bus or entering/exiting the stands.

When in the stands at games during hot weather games:
  • 1) Students are to remain in check in full uniform and shako, until the entire band enters the stands.
  • 2) The director will give a command to remove the coat and shako.
  • 3) The jacket should be removed, turned inside-out, and set on the seat to the left of each student.
  • 4) The shako should then be placed on top of the jacket.
  • 5) If gauntlets are being worn, gauntlets should be placed inside the jacket.

The shako will always be worn when moving. The shako will only be removed from the head when given a command by a director. Shakos will always be worn when exiting the bus, uncasing, moving to/from stands, and returning to the buses. Shakos are not to be removed from the head until you reach the bus.

Shakos will never be placed on their side or top. Shakos will only be placed on their bottom. The crest of the shako should always face forward.

The shako will always be worn properly with respect. The shako will always be worn forward with the crest facing forward. NO DISRESPECT of wearing the shako backwards or to the side will be tolerated. The shako should ALWAYS be worn low with two fingers space between the nose and brim of shako. The shako will always be held in carry position in the right hand if it is not being worn.

ANY CARELESSNESS, IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR, OR DISRESPECT TO THE UNIFORM WILL RESULT IN SUSPENSION OF A PERFORMANCE, POSSIBLE REMOVAL FROM THE BAND PREGAME AND HALFTIME SHOW, AND POSSIBLE REMOVAL FROM THE BAND PROGRAM.

    Maintenance

All uniforms will be stowed in the Plano Senior High School Band Uniform Storage Room on the assigned hangar number.

Each student will be expected to hang their uniform properly after every performance. Proper storage of all uniform accessories including shako, shoes, gloves, gauntlets, capes, and breast plates will be inspected.

STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A UNIFORM INSPECTION TEST GRADE AFTER EVERY PERFORMANCE. THE BAND UNIFORM OFFICERS WILL INSPECT EVERY UNIFORM AFTER EVERY PERFORMANCE.

    Expectations for hanging the uniform:
  • 1) Pants carefully hung with no creases on hangar. Pants must be hung and fastened with hangar bar.
  • 2) Jacket hung with all buttons fastened and zipper zipped. The jacket will be hung on the hangar over the pants.
  • 3) Shako placed in shako box. Bottom of shako on bottom of box.
  • 4) Breast plate attached to jacket with all buttons fastened.
  • 5) Cape attached to jacket with all buttons fastened.
  • 6) Shoes and extra socks placed in back bottom pocket of the uniform garment bag. Shoes NEVER placed in bottom of main uniform compartment. Shoes should NEVER contact white pants or jacket in garment bag.
  • 7) Shoes should be polished before every performance.
  • 8) Gloves and gauntlets placed in upper back garment bag compartment.
  • 9) GARMENT BAG will be hung UNZIPPED with jacket (breast plate and cape attached) and pants in garment bag. The pants will be hung with suspenders on the back side of the garment bag. The jacket will be hung with breast of jacket at the front of the garment bag to the open zipper of the garment bag.

White uniforms show dirt immediately. STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO HAVE THEIR UNIFORM CLEANED IMMEDIATELY SHOULD THEIR UNIFORM BECOME DIRTY. STUDENTS WILL BE SUSPENDED FROM A PERFORMANCE AND/OR REMOVED FROM THE BAND PREGAME AND HALFTIME SHOW IF THEIR UNIFORM IS NOT CLEAN.

IT IS THE DUTY OF EVERY PLANO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL BAND MEMBER TO RESPECT THEIR UNIFORM TO THE UTMOST DEGREE.

  • Athletic Shoes
  • Short White Athletic Socks

    Conditioning

The design of our physical conditioning program adheres to the fundamental concepts of Overload and Task Specific Training; a very similar approach to sports programs found in PISD.

Overload training adaptation occurs when physiological systems and muscles are overloaded or stressed beyond their normal limits, or in other words, their training threshold. We achieve this by varying both the intensity and duration of an activity be it marching or strengthening. High intensity exercises (marching and otherwise) require that duration be limited, whereas duration is be extended when intensity is low.

Our Task Specific Training adaptations are specific to the physiological systems and muscles utilized in marching, carrying an instrument, and/or wearing a drum. With each section of the marching band, specific conditioning assessment is made and designed exercises are implemented that meet the individual needs of our performing musicians/marchers. Most of the time, these designed exercises stress the heart and lungs in an attempt to improve cardiovascular endurance and enhance the delivery of oxygenated blood to working muscles.
